The IRCHA Jamboree is the largest RC Helicopter event on the west coast and offers you the chance to meet companies and pilots from all over the world.

The IRCHA Jamboree is your chance to spend time with an all helicopter crowd at the best flying facility in the central valley.

The field for this event is located at Peg FieldAirstrip about 30 minutes east of Fresno off Highway 180 (Kings Canyon Highway).

What is IRCHA?

IRCHA is the International Radio Controlled Helicopter Association and is recognized by AMA as the SIG (Special Interest Group) for advocating RC helicopter pilots.

Why is a SIG needed?

SIGs represent a segment of a model group’s interest. There are 21 AMA recognized SIGs such IMAC, JPO, LSF, NMPRA, and SAM. Each group have interests that require unique support and representation.

When was IRCHA founded?

IRCHA was founded in 1989 by Don Chapman a pioneer in RC helicopters.

What does IRCHA do?

IRCHA represents and supports the promotion of all radio controlled model helicopter activity and their pilots through committee and advocacy with AMA. Areas of promotion include rules making for competition at the US Nationals, supporting the US FAI Team at the Worlds competition and also hosting the Worlds in 2023. Turbine waiver requirements, which are different, necessary and required for RC rotary-wing aircraft.

Is there anything else that IRCHA does?

Yes. The annual IRCHA Jamboree at Muncie, Indiana, a 5 day event where ideas are exchanged, new models and equipment are displayed and demonstrated by manufacturers.

What is IRCHA West?

It is the IRCHA experience here in the Western United States.

Why IRCHA West?

IRCHA Board of Directors recognized that attendance at the annual Jamboree in Muncie by helicopter pilots from the West were underrepresented. Their data indicated that there is a strong helicopter following, particularly 3D and Scale.

Is IRCHA West Jamboree a scaled-down version of the annual Jamboree in Muncie?

No. It is the same event brought out West by IRCHA to be operated in similar fashion.

What events are there?

IRCHA is the final authority in the decision; however it is intended to be quite similar. There will be 3D, Scale, open fun flying during most of the event, and the following at scheduled times Power Hour, Battle of the Brands and manufacturers demos.

How often is IRCHA West?

This will be the first time it is held here in the West and is planned once a year in March or April. The IRCHA Board of Directors thought it best to be approximately 5-6 months after the July-August event.

When is IRCHA West in 2023?

April 12-16.

Will there be vendors?

Yes. IRCHA which hosts many of the leading RC helicopter manufacturers, suppliers, and events are inviting them to attend and participate at IRCHA West.

Where is IRCHA West being held?

The Clovis Area Modelers (CAM) of Clovis, CA is hosting the event at IRCHA’s request at one of their flying sites called Peg Field. It is a closed full-scale airfield with a 3150 foot long hard surface runway. It is located near the foothills of the Sierra Nevada at 460’ elevation, 16 miles East of Fresno Yosemite Int’l Airport (KFAT).

Can I fly my GA aircraft to the event?

To Peg Field No. KFAT Yes, it is a commercial airport that has airline service from Alaska, Allegiant, American, Are Mexico, Delta, Southwest, United and Volaris. Verify service is available through your air carrier of choice.

Is there a GA airport nearby?

Yes. Reedley Muni. AvGas, Jet fuel and A&P available. No rental cars. Contact the club if pickup is needed.

Are there hotels nearby?

Yes. The towns of Sanger, Reedley, Fresno and Clovis have numerous hotels. We have partnered with the Wyndham Garden in Fresno. Use this link for pre-arranged discounts during the event.

Are Rvs allowed at the flying site?

Yes. Motorhomes, travel trailers, toy haulers, and cargo trailers allowed and encouraged; however, there are no hook-ups. Dry camping only.

Are there any stores nearby?

Yes. There are convenience stores located at Minkler, Centerville, Reedley and Sanger. There are two gas stations with a store on their property. These are located on the way to the field on CA 180 East and Academy Ave. Approximately 10 miles or 15 minutes away.

My family is coming too. Is there anything for them to do?

Yes. Due to the cooler temps around March and April in the Central Valley you don’t want to miss the Blossom Trail and the largest water park in California, Wild Water Adventures Waterpark.

1. Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon Parks.
2. Casinos, there are three in the area.
3. Monterey Bay Aquarium, 17 Mile Drive, Santa Cruz Beach and Boardwalk. The coast is about a 4 hour drive.
4. Numerous wineries and tasting rooms.
5. Castle Air Museum.
6. Hiller Aviation Museum. This is near San Francisco Int’l Airport.
